As I reflect on my journey this International Women’s Day, I am deeply grateful for the women who saw my potential before I fully saw it in myself. They opened doors, offered guidance, and gave me chances I might not have otherwise had. Their belief in me shaped my path, and today, I strive to do the same for others.
My mother was the first to teach me the power of alignment and manifestation—that when we pursue what we truly desire, opportunities unfold in ways we never expect. I didn’t fully grasp this as a child, but her words stayed with me as I navigated the twists and turns of my career.
Like many college students, I wrestled with uncertainty about my future. My parents encouraged me to “Do what you love, love what you do.” I tested multiple paths—nutrition, physical therapy, fashion design—before stumbling into a communications class that fascinated me. That moment of curiosity led me to earn an undergraduate degree in Communication, followed by an MBA, setting the foundation for my career.
My first real professional opportunity came while I was still in college, working for a startup retail company.. The female founder and owner recognized potential in me—potential I hadn’t fully realized yet. Under her mentorship, I flourished, taking on new product development, buyer responsibilities, and store expansion across the Hawaiian Islands and Las Vegas. That role gave me confidence and taught me firsthand how powerful it is when women lift each other up.
Life took me to Texas, where a casual conversation with a hospital superintendent at Ann Taylor changed my trajectory once again. That conversation led to a transition into healthcare, where I was given roles that stretched my capabilities—again, thanks to leaders who saw something in me and encouraged me to step up.
At every stage of my career, I was fortunate to have influential women who mentored, supported, and advocated for me. Their belief in me helped me rise to challenges I might have hesitated to take on alone.
But not every experience was uplifting. A particularly toxic leader a little later in my career reminded me how damaging a poor work environment can be—and how important it is to cultivate positive, supportive leadership. That experience solidified my resolve: I would build a career where I could create opportunities for others, just as so many had done for me.
Looking back, I recognize several key principles that have guided me:
🔹 Follow Your Passion – Let curiosity and passion guide your path, rather than simply chasing job titles or industries.
🔹 Cultivate Meaningful Relationships – Seek out mentors and advocates who believe in your potential and are invested in your success.
🔹 Build Your Advisory Network – Surround yourself with a diverse group of advisors who offer support, guidance, and opportunities. Authentically care for those people and keep in touch with them. (Especially during the times when you don’t need their help.)
🔹 Strategize and Execute – Dreams without action remain just dreams. Set clear goals, take bold steps, and learn from every experience.
In honor of celebrating International Women’s Day, I am grateful to the women who lifted me up and commit to doing the same for others—not just for women but for anyone with passion, drive, and the courage to go after something bigger than themselves. Because true leadership isn’t just about personal success—it’s about opening doors for others.
Who has made an impact on your journey? And how are you paying it forward? Let’s keep the cycle of support going. 💜✨
